'Magic underwear' not enough to hand Mormon keys to White House
Mormon ... runner-up Mitt Romney
MORMON Mitt Romney is said to wear special “magic underwear” in keeping with the rules of his faith.
The frumpy white undergarments — thought to protect believers from danger — cover the shoulders and extend right down to the knees.Pictures of Romney often appear to show the outline of the garment’s plunging neckline through his shirt.
Known as the temple garment, it is embroidered with sacred symbols.
Wrestler-turned-politician Jesse Ventura, Governor of Minnesota from 1999 to 2003, said earlier this year: “You know why Mitt Romney should not be the President? I don’t want someone in the highest office that believes in magic underwear.”
But Mormon followers of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints — of which there are 14million worldwide — find the term “magic underwear” offensive.
During Romney’s campaign, his wife Ann has been accused of not wearing her special underwear by Mormon followers — when she wore shorter skirts and short-sleeved outfits.
