Taiwo Atieno on trials at Southend United

After being released by English League two club Torquay United at the end of last season, Harambee Stars striker Taiwo Atieno who is now a free agent has been busy searching for a new club. This week he landed trials at another League Two side Southend United FC.
Taiwo played in friendly played behind closed doors against Charlton Athletic, a match Southend gave a 2-0 lead to lose 3-2. Apart from Atieno, Southend Manager Paul Sturrock used the match to take also have a look at other trialists Stephen Folan and Scott Donnelly.
Last season, Southend finished  fourth in League Two, two points above fifth placed Torquay United .The club currently play their home matches at Roots Hall but plans are underway to move into a new 22,000-seater stadium located at Fossetts Farm.
Taiwo’s previous clubs include; Walsall, Rochdale, Chester, Kidderminster, Darlington, Dagenham and Redbridge and Tamworth. His best spell was at Tamworth where he scored 13 goals in 40 appearances. His last goal while at Luton was against York City on Jan 18 where his club went on to drub the York 5-0.
He made his debut for Kenya against Mozambique as a late substitute in the June 2009 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Mozambique. He played the whole match against Bahrain in a friendly then went on to feature against Mozambique in the return leg and also against Tunisia in Tunis.
His last outing for the national team was as a late substitute during Kenya’s 2-1 win over Togo in
