Duo pipped performances from Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga to snag MTV award..

RIHANNA and ex-boyfriend Chris Brown have a reason to celebrate before the MTV Video Music Awards on Thursday.

The duo topped a poll to find the Hottest Debut VMA Performance – besting Justin Bieber's rendition of U Smile and Lady Gaga's blood-soaked performance of Paparazzi, both in 2010.
They just scraped into qualifying for the vote, which covered appearances from the past five years.
Rihanna and Chris performed a raunchy medley of his hits Kiss Kiss and Wall To Wall and her single Umbrella for the show back in 2007.

The Bajan star will be singing at the event this year and rumours had been rife that she would reunite with Best Male Video nominee Chris on stage for her hit Birthday Cake.
However it has now be confirmed that Rihanna – who is nominated for three gongs – will be taking to the stage with rapper A$AP Rocky.
The VMAs will be held in Los Angeles on Thursday, with performances also coming from acts including Nicki Minaj, Pink, Lil Wayne, Green Day and British boyband One Direction.
