Arsène Wenger does not believe Manchester City’s defeat to Real Madrid
will have any bearing on Sunday’s game at the Etihad Stadium.
Roberto Mancini’s side were leading 2-1 with five minutes to go at the Bernabeu, before goals from Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo condemned them to defeat.
Some have speculated that it could have an adverse effect on the Premier League champions, but Wenger says they will adopt a different approach against Arsenal.
“I was surprised by what happened because I heard they were 2-1 up and suddenly they lost 3-2,” he told Arsenal Player.
“In the Champions League the last five minutes are very important. For the rest [of the match] they played a game that was based on defending well and counter-attacking, so it could be a little bit different when they play against us, tactically.
“We know it’s a big test. We go there in a very good, positive mind. We have a good opportunity to show how good we are and how strong we are. So let’s take it.”
City have conceded 10 goals in six games so far this season, but Wenger warns that it is too early to draw any definite conclusions.
“At the moment it’s very open in the league,” he said. “We have many good teams and it’s a bit early, because we’re only four games in.
“After 10 to 15 games you have a better idea of the strengths in the league. So let’s get in a good position so that after 10 games we have a serious chance [of winning the title].”
